I've always been a fan of Lil Wayne, but i never knew it. How does that make any sense whatsoever you ask? Well, a long long time ago, perhaps around 6th or 7th grade, I heard a song on the radio called "Back That Thang Up". Haha. There was a verse in the track that I particularly liked. This guys voice was unlike anything I had heard before. I thought the scragly voice I heard on this record was so weird but I liked it anyways. I never really looked any further into it than that. Then a little while later, that Beyonce song came out called "Soldier". Low and Behold there was that voice again. Also, this time, I knew it was someone called Lil Wayne, but there were so many "lil" whatevers out at the time that I just figured he would fall through the cracks like everyone else. Once I got to college, everyone was all of a sudden talking about this guy Lil Wayne. It seemed like everyone knew who he was and everyone loved him. "Where the hell have i been?" I asked myself, since I really didn't have a clue how this guy got to be so famous seemingly overnight.
Anyways, as I was watching VH1's Lil Wayne Behind The Music the other night, I learned that it was him on all those tracks, and he had been working his way up the whole time without me even realizing it. How did this guy slip through the cracks? When it comes to music I usually know what I'm talking about but I definitely didn't see this coming. I actually didn't even remember he was on that Soldier track until my roommate, Jess, pointed it out to me the other night.
I'm kind of rambling now so I'm done. Not really used to blogging yet but this'll get better I promise :)

I, too have been a fan of lil wayne for years now, and i just have to say that i find it interesting that it took a VH1 special about him for people to truly see where his talent was at. The music industry, especially for hip hop, is in the worst shape of all time and its only going downhill. Im referring to the condition of the industry because artists with good talent, like Wayne, always tended to be overlooked. They would rather continue to play the commercialized, bubble gum, pop music on the radio, which they still do.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, i think VH1 has officially ran out of ideas for their Behind the Music series, because Lil Wayne is at the prime of his career right now, and don't they usually do these little specials after the hype has receded. IDK maybe its just me.
I watched Lil Wayne Behind The Music on VH1 as well! I actaully watched it twice.. haha I just love Lil Wayne. The first time I realized I liked his music was when I turned on the radio and his song "lolipop" came on. His songs are so catchy and his voice is so distinct. I also feel like he will create music with everyone for example Madonna's single revolver is with Lil Wayne. He is very musically enclined and i think VH1 showed how talented he really is.
